Nepal Disable Association Khagendra New Life Centre (NDAKNLC) is a nonprofit organization established in 20 April 1969 AD by a social worker, Mr. Khagendra Bahadur Basnet, who himself was living with physical disability. NADKNLC operates with its motto since its establishment that is “to raise awareness in matters of disability in the community and enhance the growth and development of physically disabled people of the country.” It is devoted towards the contribution of nation through promoting, protecting all the human rights and fundamental freedoms of the people living with disabilities and to promote respect for their inherent dignity. The key objective of the NDAKNLC is to contribute in the overall development of people living
with physical disabilities to enhance their potentials to participate in social and economic activities in the society and improve living standards.
At the moment it carries out its activities through five branches across the country, and operates several Institution Based and Community Based service activities for the people with disabilities in Nepal. The institution carries out its activities through five branches across the country which include Special Education Secondary School mainly intended students with disabilities, SOS Children Village providing a favorable family environment to children of five to 18 years of age living with disabilities, Nepal Orthopedic Hospital as well as Orthotic and Prosthetic Centre, and the New Life Centre. Given the range of establishments under its umbrella, the income of the Centre alone is insufficient to meet even all its operating expenses. Therefore, since the establishment itself the NDAKNLC has been providing its services in the partnership with different institutions like Nepal Government Ministry of Women Children and Senior Citizens, SOS Children Village, Lions Clubs, Rotary Clubs, and many more individual donors in different programs. Most of the physical infrastructure have been constructed with support from individual and institutional donors or partners.
The New Life Home (NLH) provides residential rooms, wheelchairs as per the condition of the admitted people, medical support including food and nutrition. All the residents of the NLH are poor with no alternative to provide them decent living conditions. Nepal has recognized right to food and shelter to all as the fundamental rights of citizens, and the NLH is helping the Government of Nepal by providing the residential services to the people with disability who are poor, helpless, and in needs for services.
The physical infrastructure of the NLH had been re-constructed with the initial cost of 17.8 million rupees. The rooms, toilet facilities, kitchen and dining hall are re-modelled for the prevailing standards and are made suitable for the modern times which will ultimately benefit more than 100’s of disabled people.
After the re-construction of the building the Inauguration of the building was hand over through our Chief Guest International Fabrício Oliveira.
